Dave Heidt
Bass & Vocals
Swingin' with the
Mambo Kings began when Dave was five. He played his first memorable notes
on an antique pump organ that was in the family house. The Heidt family
was founded on music, from grandparents on; his parents both played trumpet.
While other kids played ball, Dave had to practice . . . he hated it .
. . and loved it, too. Music was it! He still played ball, but was better
at music. Dave ended up knowing more about Herb Alpert's music than he
could ever know about how good Bart Starr could throw a football. This
dedication to music earned Dave a scholarship to the Stan Kenton jazz
camp in California, while in high school.
Music was exciting,
frustrating, and yet, easy at times. Working a slide rule was miles away
for him compared to a slide trombone. His parents were masters of art,
logic, and most of all, humanity. Music is all of that to Dave, as a beautiful
way to express good times and bad. He is here to make music, and crack
a few jokes; "And everybody thought we were all in it to get dates and
make money."
Dave's music career
spans more than thirty-five years and countless road miles with touring
and recording bands in Canada and Western US. He also performs regularly
with Butte jazz ensemble, The George Groesbeck Trio, and owns Heidt
Recording Service, an acclaimed recording studio in Butte
to help other musicians realize their dreams. Every sunny summer afternoon
finds him touring back roads and byways on his Harley Road King.
